Title: Kick'n It Old School
Not yet added
Hello, everyone! I'm new to Portland, and I'm looking to find a solid D&D group to play with. I'll happily play any edition, although I admit to a nostalgic soft spot in my heart for running or playing 1st edition - anyone interested?
I like games that are open-ended and "organic". My old DM before I left Kentucky was great for that - his world felt real, there was a lot of character development, and the game never felt like a series of isolated adventures. I salute you, Dan!
Ooh, a tough question. Okay, I DON'T like the bard, in any system - "He's like a thief! But with music stuff, too! Oh, and he can cast spells." Lame, I say! Other than that, all the classes can be appealing - I'd like to play an illusionist sometime.
70% RP, and 30% combat - maybe even a bit more RP than that. If there's not much development of character and story, I just find it harder to give a crap when the dice are hitting the table as the party whales on the foe du jour.
Between 5 and 8, although that can admittedly make a battle go mighty slowly in the current edition if everyone's not on the ball. However, I think a bigger group makes for better roleplaying and interaction.
I played my first D&D game about 25 years ago, although our poor understanding/creative interpretation of the rules at the time lead to my 35th level cleric with full psionics who gained a level at every 2000 xp. I'm much better now, I promise.
"I look forward to meeting like-minded players. Like I said, I'll happily play any edition, and I may even get up the ambition to DM a 1e campaign if there's interest - I've got spare PHB's if anyone's down for it!"
Good stuff - I've been lax in making it to Meetup events, but I enjoyed meeting almost everyone there. I'll definitely attend again!

"Usually beer, occasionally a Beam and coke. Booze is game fuel!"
"There's a "Deadwood" joke in there somewhere..."
"Hm - this one's new to me! Have you seen the game itself yet? I'm curious what it does differently from all the other horror RPGs, and how smooth the system is. Wouldn't mind having a good game to maybe run a one-shot or two with sometime..."
"Spinners and skein? Is that what you call the players and the group, or am I missing something?"
"The party in my 1e game is looking for the lair of a green dragon known to live in the Direwood Forest, since they need some fresh dragon blood to remove a cursed magic item from one f the more impetuous PC's...."
"Ooh - that's a pretty generous heap o' swag they sent!"
"Ah, fair enough - I based my assumption of the majority of meetups being D&D on a quick glance at the calendar. Looking more closely, I see that a lot of those are the official D&D encounters thing rather than a separate meetup thing...."
"The Sand People are easily startled but they'll soon be back, and in greater numbers."
"That was almost a haiku!"
